That is hilarious. I think the purpose of the glued side is to ensure that the next sheet that you use is top one.

I love my Midori A5 glued pad, same concept one corner is which is rounded is open and one side glues. Fits my jonior legal pad holder perfectly and can use my fountain pens! I have the blank pad so I created my own grid guide for using underneath each page

Personally I’d be hanging onto the glued portion and swing-flipping the notebook open, rather than inserting a thumb betwixt the leaves. I think that should do the trick, so I’m happy enough that it would work for me :)
