That's probably the right way to go. If you can't hear any shooting or yelling, the fighting's probably over. And if the enemy's planning an ambush, they would take up position behind the clean door since they know that's the way most people would go.

oh hey look two doors! One is creepy and soaked in blood, probably deadly encounter behind said door. And the other one is perfectly fine door. Any sister of battle, or anyone who has played D&D ever before knows that the blood soaked door is always the one that will be chosen....cause reverse psychology or some shit, always works with my players, they are always more afraid of the normal looking door.
