Saying the universe isn't deterministic and saying the future doesn't exist are very different.

Both possible futures exist. What you don't know yet is which one you find yourself in.

Wouldn't all futures exist until one is observed? So by choosing going left instead of right (example), you observe that one and the other ones collapse

An alternative view would be that you don’t fully understand what’s happening
That’s not a paradox, it’s incomplete knowledge

Only the “now” persists continuously into nowness
There is a now that is yet to be, that is yet to arrive
and
the past, the now that was… it persists in memory

In physics, particularly in quantum mechanics, the idea that multiple potential outcomes can exist simultaneously is a fundamental concept. Events at the quantum level can be described by probabilities rather than certainties, leading to interpretations where different outcomes exist in a superposition until measured or observed.

This notion challenges classical determinism, suggesting that the future is not predetermined but rather a set of potentialities. In that sense, one could argue that the future "doesn’t exist" in a concrete way until it is realized through events or observations.

This perspective aligns with interpretations like the Copenhagen interpretation, where the act of measurement collapses the probabilities into a single outcome, or the many-worlds interpretation, which posits that all possible outcomes actually occur in separate, branching universes.

The future allways exists! You just can’t predict it with absolute accuracy but have to wait for it to become the present to know what happened.

Because now it's all there is now is all there was and now is all they'll ever be❤

We only just confirmed the Higgs boson which will lead to a world of new understanding of our physical universe. What he’s describing is only true according to our current understanding of physics.

Or, it tells you that you just don't know enough.😅😅😅

Physics, at best, will always only ever be an incomplete model of reality.

The title sounded quite clickbaity, regardless click it did, and it was really interesting. Thank you! The thing catching most of my curiosity: "half-silvered".

Whereas we appear to experience time running forward, it may be just our concept of time, but nothing being really fundamental about it?

The assertion that the future, in a profound way, doesn't exist can be understood through several philosophical and scientific lenses:

1. **Philosophical Perspective**: Many philosophers argue that the future is not a tangible reality but a conceptual framework for planning and anticipation. According to this view, only the present moment is real, and the future consists of possibilities rather than certainties.

2. **Temporal Nature of Reality**: Some theories in philosophy of time, such as presentism, propose that only the present exists, and both the past and future are unreal. This challenges our intuitive understanding of time as a linear progression.

3. **Quantum Mechanics**: In quantum physics, events can exist in superpositions, meaning that multiple potential outcomes are possible until a measurement is made. This underlines the idea that the future is not fixed but probabilistic.

4. **Relativity and Time**: Einstein's theory of relativity also complicates our understanding of time, suggesting that time is not absolute and can be experienced differently depending on one's frame of reference.

5. **Practical Implications**: Emphasizing the non-existence of the future can encourage a focus on the present moment, mindfulness, and the importance of current actions rather than worrying about what may come.

These ideas challenge our conventional understanding and can lead to deep reflections on existence, reality, and human experience. 🤔

That's not a logical conclusion. Just because you can't figure out what's going to happen doesn't mean it's only going to happen one way. In fact it seems more likely that it would only happen one way and that we just can't predict it.

This scientist is smart, but he just described another Paradox, a single photon travels in quantum waves.

Why doesnt this video start with "My opinion is"? Being that the topic discussed is an unknown by definition wouldnt it make sense to not declarative statements? Always someone trying to alter others belief systems with little more proof of claim than "trust me bro."

As the studied man that he is, one would expect him to notice a textbook example of an argument from ignorance fallacy, yet here we are…
