Burning Money Experiment (Chemistry)

This experiment looks like we are burning a one hundred dollar bill (!), but actually we are transferring heat energy from a chemical reaction to water molecules. The high specific heat of water allows it to absorb the heat energy from the combustion reaction, protecting the hundred dollar bill from the flames.

1. Pour equal parts 91% isopropyl alcohol and water in a heat resistant container. Make sure to stir the solution so that both liquids are mixed together well.

2. Dip your money in the solution until it is completely covered in the mixture. If any part of the bill is dry, it will actually burn when you light it!

3. Light the money, and watch it burn.

▶️ How the burning money experiment works:
Even though flames are present, the money itself is not burning. The heat energy generated by the combustion of the isopropyl alcohol is being absorbed by the water present.

If you don't use enough water, the money will burn after the water evaporates.

❗️ One last piece of safety advice--the drips of isopropyl alcohol are also flammable, so don't perform this experiment over a flammable surface or it will catch your table on fire.

As far as I know, stores only sell 70% isopropanol around here. It works fine by itself without adding any more water... though I have burned a few bills, but only superficially.

you forgot to mention that you rounded the corner where you lit the bill 0:31 so the bill has a lot more surface area and does not reach combustion temperature

Also try the CO2 rocket were you get a 3 quarter inch PVC pipe and screw a cap on the end then put a nail through the cap so where it's pointing inside of the pipe then drop a CO2 cartridge (made for air soft and BB guns Dow the other side and when it hits the nail it shoots out of the pipe into the air.

You should do the elephants tooth paste. Mix hot water with yeast then put that in a bottle and put hydrogen peroxide in that and it has a very cool effect

Wish I could burn all the money in the world. In one big heap. Ripped off so many times for it, work so God Dame hard for it. An to think somebody else would use it for the things I have been praying for all my life an miss use it me an others. Hard to say in God we trust unless there is an after life, hell, an purgatory.
