Awesome video Dale and Chandler! It should be noted, if you choose to speak your text, speaking a little slower than normal can really help the accuracy when it's being transcribed.

Nice video you guys! :D I love that you have your VidSummit bracelet on Dale. I don't like Mind Maps myself but I love the process you have laid out.

You won't lose your place if you use Dragon Naturally Speaking instead of just a recorder. You'll have a copy of what you said to look at. But outlining is the real way this "1000 words in a short time" works. Just dictating will get you into a place where you not only don't know where you are, but you don't know where to go next with the story. So use mindmapping -- or Scapple from Literature and Latte.

I use Dragon when speaking the text, it's ok but far from perfect. You really need to pay attention to the words it's writing. It's really shippy at swearing too. It refuses. Can't even train it to swear.

Hey y’all! This is just what I need! I need to be more organized! I tend to just write- but... it doesn’t always work out and I don’t always get everything done the way I want

I need to say this, because Chandler didn't: A transcribed recording is not a draft.

In fact, I'm going to say it again for the people in the back: A TRANSCRIBED RECORDING IS NOT A DRAFT! The amount of time you save by "speaking your book" gets added back in with interest after the fact when you have to turn the transcription into a workable draft. And that's BEFORE you do any actual revising or editing.

So if you want to speak instead of write, you certainly can...just know it isn't the magic timesaver you might think it is. Do it because speaking is more natural for you, not because you think it will cut a bunch of time out of the process.

I must confess I have done an overall map, but not one for chapters. I'm up for giving that a try.
