The reigning European champions have had an inconsistent showing on the international stage since 2006 but historically, they tend to find an extra gear in major tournaments. Can Italy contend in this year’s euro? Silly question, I know they’re not at their absolute best yet ( still in rebuild mode ) but of course they will contend, they can win it. All you need to do is give Italy a sliver of a chance & they’ll nab that cup, like a thief in the night. Don’t sleep on the Ity’s, in most cases their reserves outfit would beat most countries for crying out loud, “ can Italy contend/compete in this year’s euro “ is a ridiculous, & downright embarrassing question. I think too many are heavily underestimating Italy because well that is not a stellar formation, but I also don't see anybody underlining how good the Germany team is, playing home nonetheless; so I am not surprised people just looking at other teams for the win to be shocked by the field results. This tournament will be decent for Italy, but I think that it's the worlds where it will shine.

I will be surprised if they get out of the group stage. Don't get me wrong I want them to succeed. But....This is not a team in good form at the moment. For me this is still a stepping stone for Italy. They are gearing up first to qualify for the World Cup in 26. Which they haven't done since 2014. Then showing well there. The U17 squad just won the Euros. That shows that the youth are coming but not till 2028 Euro and 2030 WC.

We have a lot of good players, but aside from Barella, DiMarco and Chiesa I haven't seen to many great players in this lineup. Scamacca and Retegui have a big opportunity to make a real name for themselves, and i'm hoping they don't disappoint.

And if in the past this may have been very true, now it doesn't seem much like it.

But remember...

When Italy is not among the favorites, it is exactly when Italy is the most dangerous of all! It always has been like this.

Italy always won as underdog and not as favorite.

Hard to see where the goals will come from, but they do have many of the world's best centre-backs, so they may not need to score many to win games.
