The "Klaatu Nebula" is a reference to the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still. If you're a younger scifi fan, run out and watch it NOW. It's a very solid scifi movie that still holds its own today, 70 years later.

If there was an alien race that was built completely different than humans but they studied humans and built some sort of tech that could translate their language to make it understandable to us, it would still come across as sounding really weird and I think this movie showed that. It’s just like another person who speaks another primary language will have an accent in your language. This is another species that has totally different vocal chords but still made a really good translator.
