The Love Witch is the Best Film I've seen all year

The Love Witch is the best movie I've seen in 2024. It's so good i felt like it deserved its own video instead of being lumped in with my annual Halloween movie review. This 2016 film was filmed on antique cameras and film stock from the 1960s even though it is set in modern times. This gives it a truly unique aesthetic that can be very off-putting when it gets violent. I also think this movie has complex themes with many layers and even some self-criticism.

I just saw this movie and you are so right when it is a slow burn. I enjoyed the beginning with the 60's look and was totally shocked to see the BMW pull up. I started losing interest in the middle, just where it was going slow as you said. I did watch to the end and was totally confused with the ending, but as I have thought about it and hearing your comments here, I have come to appreciate how good this movie really is. Just watched it, wow, what a great work. This is a stunning visual feast. Anna Biller's dedication to the 60s aesthetic is uncanny, creating a truly immersive experience. The occasional modern element is a disorienting, so you can figure out how good and precise the representation of 60s aesthetic has been.

I found Lisa Frankenstein very smart.
It's as interesting take on nonbinary subject as Jennifer's Body was on queer and bisexual topics.
Diablo Cody is great in telling these complex subjects in light, interesting ways with a popcultural twist.

Wonderful, underrated movie. Clearly influenced by David Lynch’s style of pastiche, but takes it a level further with the production. Defo need to rewatch this soon.
