El compositor Scott McKenzie...cuyo nombre real era Philip Wallach Blondheim y cuya versión de "San Francisco" se convirtió en himno de los hippies hace casi medio siglo, murió el 18 de agosto de 2012 en Los Ángeles a los 73 años de edad... Pero quizás los que algunos no recuerden sean sus comienzos.... en un principio formó el grupo "The Smoothies " grabaron dos discos sencillos para el sello Decca Records, producido por Milt Gabler (productor de los discos de Bill Halley). En 1961, Phillips y McKenzie conocerían a Dick Weissman y conformaron The Journeymen, y grabarían tres álbumes para Capitol Records ... Antes de separarse en 1964.....De todo el mundo es conocido "San Francisco".....Pero lo que no he logrado encontrar en "You Tube"es este tema...Es una autentica joya de grabación... Para los amantes de las viejas canciones de los 60's..... ¡¡Descanse en paz ..Este gran hombre que fué todo un icono para muchas generaciones!!!
The composer Scott McKenzie ... whose real name was Philip Wallach Blondheim and whose version of "San Francisco" became the anthem of hippies almost half a century, died on August 18, 2012 in Los Angeles at age 73 ... This song was composed by future Papa John Phillips and the Smoothies included his friend Scott McKenzie (formerly known as Phil Blondheim) which got the group onto Dick Clark's American Bandstand. This is a very nice tune which should have been a major hit because it has a classic sound characteristic of the time SMOOTHIES - SOFTLY / JOANIE - DECCA 9-31105 - 1960
