Carl Perkins wrote & performed "Blue Suede Shoes" first!! I remember it well, Carl was in a car accident in Delaware. (Thursday, March 22, 1956, shortly before sunrise EST) — Musician Carl Perkins, 23, was severely injured this morning when the car he was riding in crashed on Route 13 between Dover and Woodside, Delaware.

Perkins and his band were headed to New York City for a Mar. 24, 1956, appearance on NBC-TV’s Perry Como Show after playing a show in Norfolk, Virginia, on Mar. 21, 1956.

Instead, Perkins was forced to spend several months in the hospital. By the time he recovered, Elvis Presley had covered Perkins’ hit, “Blue Suede Shoes, ” and Perkins’ career was never the same.

This is what you call music.. pure songwriters and the songs meant something.. the songs they write today is bullshit compared to what they wrote in the 50, s and 60s..it was true lyrics..I wish I grew up in their time.. but I'll never forget them true artist's.. NEVER 🇨🇮🇨🇮

Never understood why Elvis Presley became a living God and Carl Perkins remains nearly unknown by most people. Carl Perkins was probably the best Rock& n' Roll star who ever lived !!!!

The audio is slightly out of line with the video on this clip. I remember watching this show when it aired back in 1980.  You should have left the introduction to the song on as well.

Years before this, Johnny introduced Perkins and said Carl was responsible for this this song...
NOT Elvis...Had Carl not been in that fatal car accident he would of carried it, but Sam Phillips
gave it to Elvis....Now if there are any of you Memphis Mafia guys or kin still out there....Still
trying to call Johnny and Carl ( Jealous sons of bitches....which you did ) Stay off of their shoes

Read Cash's books, he gave Carl this idea because of his Sargent in the army
and Carl returned the favour by telling him to name it ....I walk the line....

Jonny gave the idea of blue suede shoes to Perkins and he was also on the million dollar quartet with Perkins.
If you choose to believe cash over everyone else including Perkins, because Johnnys version of history is contradictory to everybody else's.
Perkins is a humble guy who never like to call people out and likes to see the best in everyone, Presley was singing blue suede shoes on his tv debut and had already recorded it, it had been issued on his First LP, Ep and extended Ep all released in March 1956 when Perkins version was heading towards the top 10 national charts and was no.1 in the memphis charts, his single version was only held back because heartbreak hotel had only been out a couple of months and was in direct competition with Perkins blue suede shoes, and didn't want to hinder sales of his debut major label release.
All this crap about Elvis wanting to wait for Perkins version to sell a million copies first before he covered it is lies, and historical facts you can check prove this.
It also makes no sense seeing as Perkins and Presley were pretty much on equal footing both had their first major smash hit released at the same time, At the time Presley wasn't a massive name and Perkins a nobody, sure Perkins didn't really follow up with anymore big hits, but at the time they were pretty much equal, Presley had a bigger name in parts of the southern states, but Perkins had also had a couple of local hits and was also a name
