You can do the most basic alarm system with just 3 items (4 if you count the wire).
A 9V battery
a 9V alarm siren
and a clothespin.
Drill a hole on the clothespin, through the jaws, so that you can place a wire on each jaw. Strip the wires and pass each one through each jaw. The stripped metall threads will act as the contacts of a switch, and this way you have your "sensor" ready.
As long as the clothespin is pressed, the metal threads of the wire will not contact, and no power will flow through them. If the clothespin is released, the jaws will make contact, and the wires will close the circuit.
That's it.
From that point, the rest of the circuit is easy. You just connect the plus terminal of the 9V battery, to the plus connector of the siren, the minus connector of the siren to one of the leads of the clothespin, and the negative terminal of the battery to the other lead of the clothespin.
And this way you have the most basic alarm system to warn you in case somebody tries to enter from a closed shutter or door.
You can add more sensors in parallel or have them away from the syren by installing longer lines. You can do all sorts of improvements. And those 9V batteries last quite a long time.
All this of course requires the residents of the house to actually be "in" the house.
If you're away from the house, then you could probably set up a system that would call you on your cell phone, whenever it received a signal from the sensor. But that's an idea for another video.
