Nolan, Spielberg, Tarantino and Kubrick never went to film school. Let that sink in, film school grads.🤣😂

I can predict main reason for Nolan greatness is his discipline...

Has someone who has written, directed and performed in plays for decades. What he’s saying is so important. The audience will interpret and find layers in all sorts of ways with your work. You don’t have to worry so much about that in making it. Just tell the story you want to tell in the way you want to tell it. The audience will do the rest.

Imagine turning Christopher Nolan down to get into film school… The truth is that it probably is what made him. He went to school for English, which informed his storytelling ability, and he was forced to make things happen for himself. Being in a similar situation as he was, it gives you an edge.

It’s cool to get insight into his process for his screenwriting. I never knew he didn’t go to film school either, I’d say things worked out just fine for him despite that!

I’m an aspiring filmmaker who just went through two years of college in filmmaking and is now continuing on the same path at university. It’s true that you don’t HAVE to go to film school to be a successful director. However, film school is really great for finding other people who have the same passion as you and can help you achieve your vision. Furthermore, it also gives you access to a lot of expensive film equipment that when used properly with a good story can elevate your work to the next level. I don’t regret going to film school at all, quite the contrary. I earned two awards from two different film festival which is very important when trying to stand out from other filmmakers.

Film schools are best for technical subjects like Cinematography, Sound Design and Film editing. Top Film school also creates the platform for comman person who is willing to go in this film industry. Alfonso Cuaron who is from Mexican film school is skilled in both Editing and Cinematography.

I think a lot of aspiring film-makers love the idea of directing, of pushing a camera rather than telling a story. You get this impression from a number of directors who are even successful (and have often made lame films). Nolan studied stories and storytelling through the form of English literature before he became occupied with film-making. That's important to remember. Read books, learn to understand what makes a good story or plot. Outside of that, learn about people, culture, politics and society. Then pick up a camera and not the other way around. A lot of the greatest film-makers didn't go to film school. I'd rather spend an education learning about storytelling and after that figure my way around film-making rather than go the other way around.

When every idea the movie bring across is something the author explicitely tried to say, then it's not much more than a dramatized essay. There needs to be some ambiguity, and also not everything needs to be a lesson to teach, just make it emotionally engaging

Christopher Nolan with Emma Thomas met me but I'm faceblind, with 38 of the greatest scripts. I'm fkn dying in agony. Last year it was Quentin Tarantino. Nolan said hello to me behind my right shoulder and I just thought he was nodding to me because he was passing through!

I struggle with the idea of alternative interpretations too. Clearly Nolan 'got on with it" quite well, most notably with Inception.

Some of the best filmmakers come from nothing or from unorthodox backgrounds.
