First Only-Tribal CRPF Battalion In Naxal Zone Soon

Soon a battalion comprising only of tribal soldiers from Bastar will fight gun-toting Maoists in the region. The Home Ministry has given a go ahead to raise a tribal battalion drawn from Bastar in Chhattisgarh to effectively counter the Maoists. The battalion, to be raised by CRPF, will remain stationed in Bastar for the first five years.
To ensure that more and more tribals come forward and qualify mandatory tests, the government has also relaxed physical requirements for recruitment given that Bastar tribals are charasteristically short-statured and of thin frame.
