E6B Flight Computer Introduction and Example

That creepy looking device with the wheels and the sliding card may
seem intimidating, but it's really easy to use.
For the test you will use it to find just TWO variables:
In "Flight Time" questions you will always be finding GROUND SPEED
In " Heading" questions you will always be finding WIND CORRECTION.

Follow my step by step instructions the same way every time and you
will always get the correct answers.

“Dont worry why, just do it to get the right answer” wow great teaching dude, so helpful

Dr. Alan, keep up with your teaching methods. They are effective and your simple language is helping to learn fast.
Thank you for that. I really appreciated that.

This method generates an incorrect wind correction angle. Students are better served by using wind direction first, just like the instructions on the E6-B.

I like the explanation and I gave you a thumb up, but you made an error at the beginning while using E6B. Instead of using the True Course, you should have used you the Wind Direction. The explanation is on the E6B itself.
1- Place Wind Direction under True Index.
Instead of using a calculator, I would turn the E6B over and the other side to time and distance. I had done it that way and it works. Thanks.

You actually did it wrong. You set the wind direction first but u put the true course first. Doing that makes you have a right crosswind with a slight tailwind. If the calculation was done right you would have a left cross wind with a slight tailwind. You did get the right ground speed though.

The directions on the E6B say for step one "place the wind direction under the true index" (not the true course.

DO NOT WATCH THIS. You will screw up your wind correction angle. Just read the instructions on the device.

Great video- it’s been out awhile.

What order do you go through first?

Example:
If my track is 090- east.

A) calculate winds
B) calculate Distance
C) add or subtract sectional map variations.
D) calculate Time for leg.
E) calculate magnetic heading
F) calculate planes compass deviation

Can any be done out of sequence & still be ok?

Hello Alen. Question for you. Do I need to take a test first before I go to flight school? Thanks

This drift shoud be positive, you have to begin by the wind direction and speed than true course, thx

Yes Teacher.
I think I understand the first 2-minutes. But please, go slow. And, continue to point to the E6B in case I forget which computer to use in this lesson plan. /Lonewolf

Wrong. If you’re going to put something on YouTube at least make sure you’re doing it right.
