Peter Lorre was a Hungarian-American actor born on June 26, 1904, in Rózsahegy, Austria-Hungary (now Ružomberok, Slovakia) and died on March 23, 1964, in Los Angeles, California, USA.
He became famous for his distinctive appearance and his portrayal of sinister characters in films, particularly in the horror and thriller genres. He gained critical acclaim for his performance as the child killer in the German film "M" (1931), directed by Fritz Lang.
Lorre also appeared in several Hollywood films, including "The Maltese Falcon" (1941) and "Casablanca" (1942). His other notable films include "Mad Love" (1935), "Crime and Punishment" (1935), "The Face Behind the Mask" (1941), and "Arsenic and Old Lace" (1944).
