I'm software programmer, I've always found sequencers cool, especially the ones that introduce randomness but in an ordered/creative way.

I remember back in the days of old-school Ableton there was a nintendo DS homebrew app called NitroTracker, which was essentially a FastTracker-styled tracker sequencer for the DS that made excellent use of the dual screen + touch screen. I loved it to death and then never used it for... about a decade.

Seeing FastTracker in your video triggered a huge surge of nostalgia and now I've got my ancient DS charging again so I can fiddle with this classic piece of 2006 software...

This channel is a wealth of knowledge. With each video I watch, my mind is a little more blown by the breadth of your understanding. Thanks for sharing so much of it here.

Thank you so much. I’ve been watching synth videos for a couple years, but I’ve never seen someone explain sequencers this clearly, so I was always embarrassed that I never understood the sequencers in synth videos.

It’s so adorable how you pronounce “generative”, but the video (and the links!) is amazing, thanks!

I'm just dropping by to give a quick shout out to the Numerical Editor/Tracker "Sunvox", just cuz it's awesome and super-duper cross-platform.
Also, thanks for a great video. I'll probably come back to it when I feel like digging deeper into some other music software.

Yo Jeremy, I watch you for 1 year now and just realized that you created the music for a TEMPONAUT video. Im shocked and fascinated now.

Great overview on sequencers. I've been very interesting the analog and generative sequencers for performance. Thanks for posting!

So happy to see fast tracker and impulse tracker mentioned.

I'm essentially 100% noob when it comes to making electronic music (to give you an idea: I only heard of sequencers for the first time a few days ago) so this is a rather overwhelming video BUT ! ALSO!! super interesting and exciting, I cant wait to play around with some of these!!

A few really cool sequencing programs for iOS:

Seaquence - Very odd node/piano roll sequencer that incorporates sequences resembling jellyfish floating around. Each jellyfish sequence can drive external MIDI or the internal synth engine. Moving each creature around the screen changes the pan/reverb position (at least with the onboard synth).
Aphelian - Geometric sequencer based somewhat on Euclidean sequencing.
KRFT - Piano roll type sequencer with a user configurable performance interface. You can create your own interface for controlling multiple sequences to multiple devices.

Amazing video Jeremy, I use a lot of the ambient type sequencing methods you mentioned. I love them, I’m always looking for new and different sequencers tho so thank you for this. A part 2 sometime would be awesome 😅

I would have to say that this is a well proportioned coverage of sequencing types done in a 14 min video, sir. Kudos

Would a sequence jacket have been too much to wear? Also, I get it, I'm buying an iPad.

I'm really into euclidean, cartesian and generative sequencing. However, I didn't get so much the theory and differences behind them. Any link about them would be appreciated. By the way, keep it up Red, you have actually inspired me (not just you, but you are one of the reasons xD) to start making my own music again after 6 long years of nothingness. Thanks 😁
