We rarely consider how quickly the Earth is rotating as it orbits the sun. But we'd soon notice if it started spinning more quickly! But what would actually happen? Would we all be flung off our planet, catapulted out into space? Would the oceans rise up and flood all our major cities? Or would life just carry on as usual?

If the Earth didn't rotate, there would still be a day-night cycle. One solar day would be one year. For there to be no day-night cycle, Earth would have to be tidally locked with the Sun, meaning it would rotate at the same rate that it goes around the Sun.

Moon slows earth rotation down and gets further away doesn't mean that it jumps back to us when we speed up earth rotation. The effect soesn't work in this direction. ^^

Moving 10x faster would mean more centrifugal force countering a constant force due to gravity, so we would be lighter in weight for certain, the air would be much thinner. It would be near on impossible to swim underwater and it may even be possible to walk on water if you tread carefully. Auto tires would last longer, and the grip to the road we are accustomed to would be more like the lunar rover in the regolith. You'd get more foam in your lattes, and they'd cost 5x as much. Last but certainly not least, Hillary will still have lost the election.

3:00 - The moon will be flung out into space, not reeled back in. Currently, the moon is slowly moving away because the earth rotates faster than the moon's orbital period. This results in gravity-assist to speed the moon up, thus throwing it higher in orbit.
If the earth spins 10x faster, all of the above will happen faster as well.
