yea i understand what you are saying. They were testing the gt500 on a drag strip. It ran a 11.8 1/4 mile while driven by journalist. You can check out the video on the svt performance page.

this GT500 definitely has the ZL1 beat. It was GMs mistake to release the ZL1 stats. It gave Ford a HUGE target to aim for. But either way, if I had the money, i'd take both in a heart beat. I don't care if its Ford, GM, or Mopar, if its powerful, sexy, and RWD, I like it

Okay, so it looks like the Shelby is a bit faster in the quarter. Motortrend gives the ZL1 credit for 12.1 seconds. I don't know what it could do with a perfect driver on a real drag strip (Motortrend's surface is more like a real-world road), but I know that their time for a Challenger is 3 tenths short. Do you know if the GT500's time was from a drag strip or was it an instrumented timing on a non-prepared surface? I didn't find the video you referred to.

Motor trend just tested the new Shelby gt500. it went 0-60 mph in a scant 3.5 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 11.6 seconds at 125.7 mph

Launch control doesn't give you traction, it makes maximum use of the traction you have available. The ZL1 also has launch control (with adjustable aggressiveness for anything from rain to a drag slicks) but has much wider tires. If they can both make maximum use of their traction, the ZL1 will still beat the Mustang to 60' because it has more traction. Now whether the GT500 will be able to make that up with its superior power through the rest of the quarter, I don't know.

The new GT500 already makes more power than the ZR1, so all it needs is better traction. Hopefully they have improved, or at least for the 2015 Shelby.

I couldn't agree with you more zr1 cost $110, 000 and the shelby is right up it's ass and it weighs alot more. I seen a video of the shelby actually makes 609rwhp and torque is around the same stock with slicks I think high 10's it's just an unbelievable car the ShelbyGT500 I can wait to see modded versions

I just wanted to say: everything is not about horsepower speaking of a performance car. Horsepower means only upper speed limit. In a ring racing, you can never go to that. And the live-axle will definitely wear tires faster at corners. So even comparing with ZL1, '13 GT500 may not win in Nuremberg, although it probably will dominate in drag race.

I think it's hard even to say if the Mustang will be faster in a drag race. Although it has all that power, the tires are still SUBSTANTIALLY smaller than the ZL1's. It's a perfect burnout machine, but I think it's going to struggle to put its power to the ground. We've seen that before with the Super Snake. Around a track, my money is firmly on the Camaro, which is a better-handling machine than the Boss Laguna Seca, a much more handling-focused Mustang than this Shelby. Looks better, too.

When the 5.0 came out, all of mototrends writers claimed it was better than any pony/sports car. They even had that bullshit article saying it was better than a M3 calling the mustang a M3 killer, yeah right! They writers even chose the new fiesta over the cruze saying it was better looking inside and out, BS!
