One day my boss had some flooring coming in to the job site.

We had to take apart the skid it was on so I was like ‘hold on guys I have something for that’.

Went and grabbed this blade and just destroyed that skid. Everything from chopping to prying.

I felt like a badass that day

So glad you finally reviewed this blade! This is my number one favorite “jack of all trades” knife for hybrid outdoor/self defense/camping use. Unlike most other “master of none” designs, I find the Survivalist is aptly named because it truly punches above its weight in all categories. For price, the durability, reliability and performance is without compare among my other Cold Steeles’, Condors’, and Kabars’. Bar-none. I belt carry it in a two knife system with the drop forged hunter where I have the smaller knife’s sheath attached over the larger blade’s at the bottom. It looks REALLY good and it’s an incredibly adept outdoor sporting combo.

The first time I purchased this knife was five years ago, and I definitely put it through quite a bit of tests!! it held up extremely well which is why I bought two more shortly after that!!

When it comes to great value, that is not going to break the bank, you can’t get much better than this!! It definitely won’t let you down. It does every single thing I need it to!!

I have this knife, a standard Ka-Bar, an Ontario SP10, & some others. This is by far the best knife I own. I don't think you can find a better knife for the cost. I wish Cold Steel would make similar handle upgrades to The Drop Forged Hunter, & completely redesign the Drop Forged Bowie, such that it's an actual Bowie with a decent grippy handle, rather than the current short handle w/ fake stag scales, & zero retention to prevent it from slipping out of your hand.

If you look around you can find them for as low as 55 to $50 at times. I have one and love it. Hard to beat for the price even at 70.

I bought the older version with the gold color. I did wrap the handle with electrical and tennis tapes. It feels way better. But the knife is great for every job I had for it, indoors and outdoors. Good review, by the way!

This is one of my favorite large fixed blades. Basically indestructible and 52100 allows for easy field sharpening. Really a great value as well.

Thanks again Aaron. I'd probably wrap it in tennis grip tape to mitigate shock from chopping as well.

Love it. Essentially a drop forged trail master.

For me 52100 is the regular carbon steel that performs like super steel. You can get a great edge, a great edge retention and a very good strength. It’s not a stainless steel but it’s more rust resistant than 1095 and with that coating ... The best part of this knife seems to be that, like you said, they did not go for the overkill profile. I think you have a winner. Very informative video, as usual. Thanks.

I haven't stripped any larger Torx screws, but I have stripped Allen's. Torx screws were designed to not strip as easily as Allens do.

Nice review. Thanks for the heads up on the $35 Cold Steel SRK in SK-5 steel. I just got mine in the mail today.

Do love Cold Steel! Their hatchets are also really great.

I just dry-shaved with mine. Didn't think I was accomplishing much, then noticed that the front of my shirt was completely covered with whiskers. Not bad for a production blade.

Looks like a pretty decent blade would love to know the exact hrc and what they heat treat for. 52100 can be plenty durable enough for use at 61 ish hrc

Hey Aaron just wanted to say thanks for your update link for the Cold Steel Recon. I purchased one of the Recon tanto edge with the YouTube Amazon link you provided the other day. This Cold steel Recon makes me feel like I a mini Samurai Katana when I have it in my hands super fun. So thanks for that link and recommendation

Nice insight on the temperature considerations. No one else I’ve looked at has mentioned that.

I recently bought the drop forged bowie with faux stag scales, it's actually really good 👍.
