Birth of a wooden barn: a timber framing journey part 4
This is part four in our compilation timber frame series with some brand new footage of topping out the timber frame. The rafters are on, the spruce bough is on the ridge and life is good in my world. Moving forward it is now time to close this timber frame in. We have sheathing boards to put on and of course we can now put metal on the roof. With the help of family and friends after my injury on this build we have finally arrived at this point. With every new day there is a new piece of the puzzle added to the frame and the building is that much closer to being finished. We have dealt with the snow, the wind, the rain and the many delays. We have mixed the use of hand tools and power tools as well as modern methods of raising as well as traditional methods. Pretty soon the rain will not matter, the wind will not matter and the snow will not matter. Stay tuned for the rest of the build as well as all of the future projects that we will be able to do in this new shop.

Wonderful. Thanks for the inspiration Jim. Joseph Campbell called it the "Hero's Journey". Be the Hero of your own life. When you follow your bliss, doors will open where there were only walls and invisible hands will reach out when you least expect it.

I felt like a was looking through an old shoebox of pictures. The memories, the journey, the friends that were made. A crafting of not just timbers and pegs but a forging of family and friends. Watching you climb the ladder for the topping ceremony had me screaming inside "Climb that ladder Jim, damn you! Climb that ladder!" I am so proud of you, your wife, your family and true friends! You have all done such a great job as we get to the end of this chapter and ready ourselves to open a new one. This has been one hell of a story! -Will

Wow Jim just Wow, You have achieved so much. It is so unique to have a channel with 16, 000 subs to take the time to reply to all comments, Even from the other side of the world its like a new video is like I've popped over for a coffee and a chat. I have learned so much, from putting up a barn, turning a tap off using just my feet, to woodchucks are angry little bastards.
Thank you so much for allowing us to share this journey with you and your family. Now I have to go.. I have something in my eye

Congratulations Jim and Family, half way home now! All the fidelly bits to come to fill
the winter days and nights once the skin is on are what keep you sane and lead to a
wonderful  work space. After the skin comes a good wood stove.
I hope you saved all the scrap.

That Barn reminds me of my Grandfather's Dairy Barn, when I was 3 years old and up, I would follow him to the barn with a cup and he would keep it full of good old Jersey milk, straight out of the cows. It was like drinking Ice Cream, so rich. I really miss those days. Seeing this barn brings it all back and I am 71 years old now. Back then we had a hay fork in the top of the barn, where you could bring up loose hay from a big wagon in both ends of the barn, as we put up hay lose and with Big Belgium Horses. But I can still see those black faced horned Jerseys. Thanks for the Video. Semper Fi.

Good morning Jim,
My days off from work are rarely when I'm awake at this time of the morning (California time) and what a treat!!! I've seen all your videos and have enjoyed them immensely. So glad for you that the timber framing is over and that you will have a roof on soon! You are one strong trooper on your farm. It was great to see that you have family members to step up to help you. Not everyone is blessed like that as they might have family members but you would still be on your own. Watching the 🌳 wreath ceremony was as I saw it was painful for you climbing the ladder but also very rewarding and also showing your thankfullness! I felt your pain as I had Achilles Tendon surgery last year and can't imagine going up a ladder within 6 months. Awesome milestone for you Jim. I am looking forward to your up coming projects. God bless you and your family.🙇
