How to motivate students to adopt a growth mindset (w/ a scientific explanation behind mindsets)

Please note: when explaining 'myelin covering connections or pathways', this is meant to be an over-simplification: I use the words connections, pathways, networks and circuits interchangeably. These can also be called 'white matter tracts'. The diagram of X's and dashes are not about specific neurons, but rather networks/circuits/etc.

Years ago, Rod Carew was the VERY closest to a batting average of .400- extremely high! The only person to ever do that was Ted Williams and he barely made it and was superbly skilled. Carew arrived at the ball park an hour and a half before regular batting practice to take his own. He worked at it very hard and said, "there are so many players in the major leagues who have more talent than I do, they just don't try hard enough."
Because of the additional work that Carew put in, he succeeded despite being less skilled than others (admittedly, he was pretty skilled!).

Michael Jordan was never "cut from his high school basketball team". He was only a sophomore and one of 52 students who tried out for 15 varsity positions on a very competitive high school team. He made JV and went on to play varsity the following year.

First...I really like your video. I love this stuff! It is nice to see a clearly presented, short video that is palatable!! I have a question if you don't mind. I'm learning more about the brain all the time so I'm relatively new to this. When you are referring to the myelination of thoughts/beliefs, are you speaking of the associative white matter in the cerebral cortex. I ask this only because I thought that beliefs develop through the frontal lobe, and work in the cerebral cortex. That is all grey matter, not white? Thanks again for building this video and sharing with everyone.

Thank you sooo much . Your videos motivate me. It is really amazing to know that negative thinking is also skill which is developed during such long time . Thats why it is so hard to deal with it.
Is it really posible to create a habit (skill) of positive thinking by doing those 3 steps everyday ?

Hi Stefanie, Thanks for uploading this. I have a few questions please and some comments.
Do you think it was just the mindset of Mozart, Einstein etc., i.e. as you say their belief that they had something really special to share? I am wondering whether it is more the case that they just loved doing it and were very passionate about and hence put in the hours required.
Thanks
