Here might be a solution: Place windmills at strategic places throughout and around the city to create an airflow that can be manually controlled. The windmills don't only generate energy, but you could turn them on (at a cost of energy) to steer the smog away when it's bad.

They stayed far too long under poverty and now their obsession to grow at any price has its price. I'm glade being in Switzerland the air fresh, democracy, social security for all, and a nice family :D

That's no surpise. I used to live in Vietnam, HCM, my home town. WE have like a fucking dust and smoke everywhere in my street, pollution is a big problem in south east asia and especially china. So it's very common to wearing a mask in my country ^^ ! So happy that i moved to the U.S now.

China needs to build 1000 nuclear power plants and stop burning coal to fix this pollution problems. Most places in China does not have earth quakes, so Nuclear power plants should be safe. And a lot of radiation risks was way over blown. wind and solar can only make very limited contribution, and supply is unstable and it has a load balance probably. so despite the risks nuclear power is still the best option in my opinion.
