1. Slip and fall prevention is a crucial aspect of workplace safety that should be taken seriously. Failure to do so can result in hefty criminal fines against the organization.
2. There are four common mindset gaps in slip and fall prevention, which can be remembered through the acronym "slip problem." These mindset gaps can prevent organizations from implementing adequate controls to prevent slip and fall accidents.
3. There are six areas that organizations must address to prevent slip and fall accidents effectively. These include flooring, footwear, contamination, housekeeping, behavior, and signage.
4. Slip-resistant flooring is critical to preventing slip and fall accidents, but it is not the only control measure that organizations should implement. Other measures, such as proper footwear and housekeeping, are also essential.
5. Not all contamination is visible, and proximity bias or proximity fatigue can cause organizations to overlook certain areas that may pose slip and fall risks. Therefore, it is essential to take a proactive approach to slip and fall prevention by implementing controls in all six areas and regularly reviewing them.
