Tom West played dulcimer at the American Folk Song Festival in the 1930's. He was named "Uncle Abner" by Jean Thomas alongside other musical characters with nicknames such as "Little Babe Caldwell" and "Little Chad Gullett" featuring gourd banjos and cornstalk fiddles.

This tribute shows a rare photograph of Mr. West and Little Babe Caldwell with gourd banjo and dulcimer.
What makes this extra special is a rare video clip from the family of Mr. Caldwell describing the photograph in in mid 1990's!

Other historic images featuring Tom West was labeled as "Unidentified dulcimer player circa 1930" and must have been an inspiration for David Schnaufer's book "Swing Nine Yards of Calico" featuring Appalachian Melodies arranged for Delcimore.

Audio: "The Valentine" by Tom West from Kentucky Mountain Music Box Set.
