Our journey continues with an exciting new chapter: the renovation and conversion of our biggest barn into four stunning apartments! After over a year of transforming our French farmhouse, we’re ready to dive into this next phase of our rural dream.
This week, we kicked off the barn project with big plans and even bigger enthusiasm. Before construction can begin, there’s a ton of prep work to tackle—starting with a massive clean-up of the barn. Despite it being December, the weather has been on our side with sunny days and clear blue skies, making outdoor work a lot more enjoyable.

Of course, no renovation project is complete without setbacks. A broken hydraulic line threw a wrench in our plans, but we quickly fixed it and pressed on. Once inside the barn, we do a small tour to share our vision for the apartments and how we plan to bring these spaces to life.

From tearing down walls to removing old planks and stones, the transformation has officially begun! While cleaning up might not be the most glamorous task, the results are incredibly rewarding—and we can’t wait to show you more in the weeks ahead.

Have you decided on what the style of the apartments will be? Remember that you’re catering for holiday makers and not full time residents, so the ‘experience’ of staying on a French farm will be important to them and the style of the apartments may need to reflect that. :-)

Amazing work, so much is getting done. The wheel loader, although requiring maintenance, has really come in handy. Simon I agree with you regarding the old wood chandelier as it is a charming character piece that could use some new life again. Have you considered putting some of the big rocks you dug up around the Christmas tree to keep it from blowing over? Bram has certainly saved you a fortune in repair skills with everything he has fixed, he’s worth his weight in gold both in personality and skill. Happy Holidays to you all.
