Agriculture is one of the most vulnerable sectors to climate change but also the second largest contributor, representing a quarter to a third of all emissions. These hazards have disproportionate effects on the poor and marginalized and exacerbate existing injustices—including global food insecurity.

Can agricultural innovations be part of the solution? What are the best ways to encourage investments in innovations to support climate-smart agriculture?

In this panel, leading academic and policy experts shared insights ahead of COP28, the United Nations' 2023 climate change conference in Dubai.

Speakers included:

- Senator Debbie Stabenow (Michigan), Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee and member of the Bipartisan Senate Climate Solutions Caucus

- Cary Fowler, Special Envoy for Global Food Security Office of Global Food Security US Department of State

- Chavonda Jacobs-Young, Under Secretary for Research, Education, and Economics and USDA's Chief Scientist

- William R. Sutton, Global Lead for Climate Smart Agriculture and Lead Agricultural Economist, The World Bank

- Paul Winters, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Keough School of Global Affairs, University of Notre Dame; Executive Director, Innovation Commission for Climate Change, Food Security and Agriculture
