This week, Mike and Tom shoot the electric breeze on a variety of subjects, including our guilty electric car pleasures and the unfathomable appeal of the Jeep Avenger. The team also answer listeners' questions to help them find the perfect electric car.

And when we do discuss cars, we find out a lot. From industry gossip to the more mundane practicalities of electric car ownership, it’s the place where we dish the dirt on the cars we’ve been driving and deliver our own verdicts on the latest electric car news. We also like to have a good laugh at the daftest bits of anti-electric news that we’ve seen in the press.

We can’t promise that you’ll learn much. You probably won’t. But if you fancy 30 minutes of idle chat and gossip about the world of electric cars, we’re here for you. If you like it / hate it / think it’s too long or too short, let us know.

As a member of a Mercedes-Benz workshop I can tell you that you're not alone with irritation about noises in

"Herbie goes in search of a rapid charger", that was perfect Mike. As for rattles, I had a Skoda Yeti back in the day, a brilliant car IMHO. It developed a rattle.... well it didn't really, I was wearing a different watch and it was the metal strap/bracelet that was rattling. I possibly caused more rattle possibilities pushing trim panels all over the place until I realised. Every time I checked a panel the rattle moved, well it would as it was on my own wrist. I'll get my coat... oh I see you already have it... Taxi!

Completely agree with rattles in the car, especially now we've moved to an EV, as there's no other noise to mask said rattle. The rear belts in our Ioniq 5 are a particular source of a knocking sound. I have to pull over and turn the belt around so the cloth anti-rattle flap is correctly oriented to the plastic trim.

My dad ( lifelong professional mechanic and garage owner) always advised me that I should never be worried by the rattles. But I should instead worry when the rattling stopped - as it probably meant something had dropped off!

How about a podcast with all the crew in the back of an ID Buzz?

Thanks for sharing video of your car camping mattress, Mike. This was one of the things we measured when buying, can you fit in the back to sleep. Interestingly this led us to the EV6 but we eventually bought a BMW i4. Bet you didn't think that one fit well for sleeping but it does.

I went to the Reading Festival and slept on a boat: Went to sleep to the slap of a river. Awoke to the slap of a guitar by Randy California..! And a soundcheck by Whitesnake! 1980 was a great year..!

Hi Guys, With regards to Rattlegate, I had one of the very first ID4 1st Editions and it must have been made by the cleaner at VW as it was full of rattles. It went back to the dealership a few times and everything it seemed worse than when it started. I eventually fixed most of the rattles myself over the 1 year of ownership. I now have a 3 year old Jaguar Ipace with 63000 miles and not a rattle to be heard. Just shows that buying new is no guarantee of a rattle free car.

Hi Mike,
I need to apologise for waving at you from my car like a big eejit when you parked up beside me at the recent Kia EV3 event in Christchurch.
I was happy to see one of my fave YouTube presenters and lost my cool for a moment. I so wanted a selfie, but I resisted.

La La Land made a joke of everyone in LA having a Prius.

My first EV was an ID3. Loved the car, bu it had a relentless loud rattle somewhere under the dash. Six months later – 4 of which it spent back with BMW multiple times, with the entire dash dismantled more than once – I got my money back... Not only had they not fixed the rattle, but they'd introduced a new one in the sunroof. It was basically a mariachi band on wheels, and drove me potty!

Yeaaaa :) more fun on Sundays. Thanks team.
And rattling (or wind whistle) drives me mad.
Yes, I forgot the English name, the trekker, and our son was allowed to take it to school when he was 18. It was his girls magnet 🤣
(school where mams and dads brought the kids in Bentleys and Rolls)
And we would have bought the Citroën OLI, but in stead, an electric VW Trekker ? . . . . .instantly.

🎉 loving the podcast! I have a Skoda Enyaq via salary sacrifice, but Ginny might not like that I’ve ordered the BMW iX2 (due Dec)! I’ve loved having the enyaq, just time for a change!
Also…you shocked me Ginny when you mentioned Rochdale! I’m from Oldham!

I don't have an Enyaq, .. yet, but one with my name on it should be arriving at my local dealer tomorrow. And I am so excited to get hold of it that can't be bothered to wait until Septembers 74 plate. Good to hear you talk with such unforced enthusiasm about it. On my test drive I was astounded by how good it felt. I have always had a soft spot for Škodas as a value option but never actually owned one. This one though felt better quality than its VW ID brethren and *looks* better than the Audi. Of course they *are* expensive. I can only afford it because now I have a company to bit it through and EVs are very tax efficient bought that way.

Love the idea of Park run rules for podcast length. Should be rolled out as informal standard!

I was at a McDonald's drive thru here in the US yesterday, and the young cashier pointed out a VW Thing to me, asking what it was. He said it looked like a Lego car 😂
