Some tips for mounting larger tires on the GR4.

The first thing to keep in mind is that the suspension has a different geometry, therefore, putting a spacer with a real thickness of 1 inch will only lift something like 1.2 inches, because the angle of the shock absorber is more direct to the wheel (on normal hilux, a 1.25 inch thick spacer raises the truck almost 2 inches).
In my truck, I put real 1 inch spacers, and I got a lift of 32mm (1.25 inches).

I mounted a 285/70R17 tire (33 inches), original rim and 1.25 spacer on my Hilux GR 4 (the result is a offset like -2). With that tire, it rubs at the front, with the plastics, to avoid it, i removed the deflector, released the staples, pushed the plastic fender forward and put screws to fix them a little further forward. It also touches the back, just behind the fender fin, at the tip of the
platen, to fix it, i cut a piece diagonally, about 3 centimeters horizontal and 10cm vertical, (where the fender extension ends), and the platen that goes underneath, i folded it inward.

Finally I placed the plastics in their position and fixed the fender fin to the can that I bent with self-drilling screws (I cut a piece of the fin, more or less close to where the cockpit mount is, it has a small fin that can touch the tire, but I just basically smoothed it out). For the cut can, put a little paint on it and then cover it with an edge cover (the kind for doors). It really is an almost imperceptible modification if you put dedication into it. With these modifications the tire only rubs if you have the steering wheel turned very far and you compress the suspension, and it is a very light friction. In all other situations, it doesn't rub anything.


Compared whit normal Hilux, mount 33 inch tires is easier because you dont need to cut the cabin mount, you have enoght space!, you only need cut some plastics and the end of the mudguard, and dont rub in any site.
