The tragic thing about scar's death is that when he was Little, he actually used to sneak off to the hyena den to play with Shenzi and her brothers. And they had already accepted scar as one of their own despite him being a lion, their natural enemy. So imagine the hurt and betrayal they felt when their trusted LION friend that they've known and loved since they were all cubs used them as a scapegoat. They ate their buddy.
