Absolutely superb drummer, and so knowledgeable. I've seen him twice this year, first with Fairport, and then with Richard Thompson.

Fascinating even for a non-drumming punter like myself!

For anyone unfamiliar... there's been a resurgence of interest in the Tama BellBrass and folks have started replicating that shell and trying new things. Different alloys and thicknesses and such... I think Dave's drum is from one of those companies...

hey dave! longtime no groove...in regards to the gruv-x...i remember watching an in studio video of you performing with three or four other superb musicians and the song went to a quiet passage and you went to a cross stick effect, and, when i heard this i thought it was the most perfect cross stick sound i'd ever heard. this was a babyland studio production (always top quality sound and filming) well, it made me go to dcp and buy one (thanks tony) because i wanted that sound! i wish i could remember the song but, as usual-the performance was flawless.thank-you drum brother, your drum brother-don fab.8/20/24

Seems like hes upgraded to more elaborate kit. I remember seeing him on tour with Richard Thompson and the kit was not only minimal but also rather small that looked like it was for a beginner. But the sound he got was huge. The snare didn’t need a mic. I put it down to his using traditional muxed grip.

Dave has been very loyal to the Yamaha brand for many years so isn’t it time they brought a signature snare with his name on it? I would buy one for sure!

DM one of my all time favourites ever since i started playing drums (in the 70s). Can’t get my head around 8 lugs on a kick? Well, he was always different.

He didn't say the sizes of his crashes, only ride and hi-hats.
