Never got to use the warranty on my 2009 XB with 275, 000 miles. Best car I ever bought.

Took my 3yr old at the time, 2008 Scion xB, to the dealer for their “free” oil change coupon they sent me. Picking up my keys they said my water pump was broken and causing a leak, $500 repair, because the warranty had just run out. I said ok I’ll have to come back next week to get the work done. So I checked the coolant fluid and driveway for leaks for the next few days nothing, couple weeks went by nothing. Took it to the local garage and they checked out the pump for $90 labor, they said nothing is wrong. A year later I took the car in to the same dealer due to an unrelated recall. Again on my way out they said, water pump is broken and leaking. Again I said I’ll come back later, never did. Another year later another recall and back to the dealer I went; same thing, water pump is broken, leaking. Mind you, this car had been driven nearly 30, 000 miles city and highway miles in the coldest of winters and hottest of summers since the dealer claimed the water pump was broken. Again I drive away, a few days later I noticed leaking under the car. I took it to a reputable mechanic recommended to me and they said, the leak is coming from the hose connector to the gasket head. I looked at and it appeared to have been wiggled out loose because the connector appeared bent. They said we can properly reconnect and glue the hose back on for $25 with a special heat resistant glue. It will take a couple hours time mainly for cooling down the car and letting the glue dry. I’ve had this same car for 13 years now, not a single mechanical breakdown. Only normal wear and tear repairs for a car with 200, 000 miles. It still runs like it’s new. Don’t buy that crap pitch from dealers if they try that on you with a Japanese car. If you didn’t have an issue when you arrived at the dealer, you didn’t have one.

I have Xb 2014 which has 114k by far this vehicle is one of the best cars I ever had very comfortable and roomy and economical and powerful, never had any issues only thing I change was the tiers and oil, and always put good gas, very cold AC.

2013 here 145, 000 things i have run into

1. Rough idle (note when A/C is off) Fix: throttle body builds carbon remove and clean (note not a bad idea to buy a gasket but old one Can be reused)
2. Driver side axle bearing at 120, 000 are prone to hummmm. Fix: Tools (axel nut tool $11.00) (ti rod pickle fork $20.00) wheel hub (513257 part num. Generally under $100.00) time 1hr. 30min. For novice.
3. At about 100, 000 to 140, 000 change brake pads


Other then that these are great Toasters great for a work car and yes camping. I am 6'2 with with inverter 2000 watts harbor freight mounted on wall with front seats all the way up its a medium size bed. Also tows nice too....

If you are buying a used one, check the service records to see if oil has been changed regularly. I bought an oil burner… have to get rid of it

Good list. I've only experienced the compressor and water pump so far on my 2012. 250k miles so far

Scion xB gen2 2013, had throttle body cleaned...rough idle, now runs perfect, no other issues. I'm a fanatic about timely oil changes, and standard maintenance.

2013 XB with 321k miles.

Replaced both CV's at 250k

Factory clutch still in good shape

Replaced all 4 wheels bearings at 235k

Battery 3 months ago, alternator at 285k

Fuel pump at 302k

Still drives like new lol. Struts still good

Only issue with them is oil consumption but you can de carbonize it and burn less. Rest is bulletproof

The white paint was infamous on these. I own a white 2013. About a 2.5 week process for the dealership body shop to completely repaint every single panel on the car, they gave me a loaner during that time.

Funny thing is this is with all cars on the road 🤣 this motor will out last any Ford or Chevy or dodge 450k miles

I've had my car for 5 years and just hit 👌 love my car but I have always had an issue, my automatic gear box down shifts to 3rd gear every time I indicate left 👌 yep no joke.

Yup my power steering went out right when I got back into my city after driving from Santa Cruz. Researching now, but at least now I know the component can be faulty.

i have a gen 1 xb and changed out all my bearing hubs, water pump, and my windshield oh and timing belt. thats not bad for 160k . other than that havent had any big problems and xb works fine so far.

The only problem I had was the windshield. 141k and still running. Need to do the basic maintenance tho

The ticking noise from my scion brought me here. But its not ticking when I turn the steering wheel. It does it when I accelerate to 50 mph and 68 mph. No one can figure out what it is. Thank you for your video. I love my scion clearly why I'm here. The air bag mention has me alil shook. 😨

I got tricked when i bought my 08 Scion Xb i didn't kw i was buying a salvage, Seller showed me a CLEAN title and believe him after sale erased his phone # etc but thank God its been a great car main problem motor oil burning it's like using gasoline insane fun car but don't forget add motor oil

On my ‘12 xb, Toyota fixed the peeling paint, air bag deflator, and the oil burning pistons for free! Since then my car has been driving problem free
