Protect and invest in nurses and midwives

Nurses and midwives are key enablers in achieving universal health coverage #HealthForAll. In the Western Pacific, they account for two thirds of health professionals.

#COVID19 highlighted their critical roles but also forced many to leave the profession and migrate to more developed countries. WHO is working with Member States to strengthen the retention of the nursing and midwifery workforce through investments such as increasing salaries, creating new posts, enhancing recruitment, and expanding career development opportunities. It’s time to protect and invest in those who protect us.
