3, 000, 000 yen is currently only about $19, 400, so not exactly a lot to relocate to rural Japan.

That sounds really nice, but I don't think I could survive Japan's typical work culture.

I really enjoyed Atami on the Izu peninsula. It's a beach town south of Yokohama. I would settle there. There are mountains there and its not far from Tokyo. The biggest draw back of living in rural Japan is there are less English speakers.

People don’t realize how difficult it actually is to move there. They can deny you a permanent residency visa without giving you a reason. Finding jobs outside of teaching is nigh impossible, and even then the pay isn’t good if you’re not in a big city.
Plus, many places like banks and such won’t let you open accounts unless you have some Japanese friends to vouch for you.
But, I wish anyone luck who is determined to make it happen. Lmao

You can move there, but goodluck finding long term employment and adjusting to their work culture. It would be preferable you have a degree or remote job with income, before undertaking this offer. Also take into account earthquakes and having to repair your house or living location. Houses are cheap because you need to constantly spend to repair damages.

This is great if you already have some savings and a remote job and want to move to Japan. You can buy an abandoned home with the 3 million yen and with your own money you can fix it up. I suspect that's how some of the foreign YouTubers flipping abandoned homes got in. Rural Japan is very isolated and the locals probably won't want you there, regardless of your ethnicity. I've seen comments about them hating on non-White foreigners but I need y'all to understand that literally everyone who isn't local is treated differently. There was a Japanese YouTuber who moved to the countryside during the pandemic and she was harassed heavily by locals and she ended up moving bc local men were entering her home with a key that only local officials were supposed to have. Her name is Rin and there are several videos discussing what happened to her.

I once read an oped from a Brtiish BBC journalist who left Japan after years there. He married a Japaneses woman and had a daughter who was a university student when he left. He said that he wanted to stay in the rural village, but the rural villages don't want foreigners there. I mean the Japanese youth leave, and now you are pushing out people that want to stay.

Also note the Y 3, 000, 000 equates to about $19, 300 you will need a side job to go with the vlog gig.

Apparently finding apartments as a foreigner is hard over there and rural areas don't really want foreigners there I'm highly melinated so I think imma stay my ass home I'm already "unwanted" where I live there's no point in moving somewhere else where I'll have no status and have a lot difficulty getting the basics while also still being "unwanted" 😩🙅🏾‍♀️

Kudos to anyone else who does it though 👌🏾

best of luck finding anywhere to live or rent. most people dont rent to outsiders,

The problem is lots of rural local people actually don’t want any “outsiders” to come. And that outsider even includes Japanese people who are from other areas. You can’t live somewhere super exclusive. Even Japanese people from urban areas can’t stand the standards.

I would definitely do this in Nara since my fiance lives there and the extra income would help us quite a bit when I finally move there!

3m JPY is like 19k USD. Don't get fooled. 20k is not worth a 3 year contract.
