In the next firmware update would it be possible to make front fader knobs to toggle between trim and fader function depending on preference. In 100% of my work I am being requested to deliver iso tracks. Gain riding is crucial in my work flow and I believe many other location recordist. Adjusting gain only with one knob and necessarily toggling between menu and mix screens is disturbing and it slows down my workflow significantly. Thank you!

hi, is there a way for the fader knobs to be gain/trim knobs instead of faders on the mixpre 10 ii? thanks

Very helpful. I had no idea that's what was going on when in Adv Mode.

+1 for a firmware update that could toggle the fader knobs to the pre-fader gain ones. As a location and SFX recordist, fiddling around with the touch screen while wearing gloves to adjust iso channels bites the big one. The LR mix bus is much less important. I do all the mixing in a DAW.
Love the SD gear, though.

Ah! Lightbulb may have gone off here! Would it be safe to say (just as an example) that you would set the gain with the fader to peak at around -20 to -12? Then set the fader volume to get the same approximate levels? I have two MixPre -3s. Not the II model, as I purchased months before the new II models came out. Still messing around with getting those "perfect" settings for my Rode NTG3 into the 1st MixPre, and my Shure SM7B on the second one for live streaming and tuts. Thanks!

When’s the 3rd gen coming out? Can’t wait to see a newer version of this awesome piece of gear!

Thanks for this video. Recently purchased the MixPre 3 II and still testing it out. Went straight to Advanced mode for 32-bit float and this concept was a little confusing at first so great video here that helped me clarify these two gain options. I will need to play around with this more though but it's a start...

Thanks for the analysis! 🔍 I’ve got a question: 🤨 I only have these words 🤔. (behave today finger ski upon boy assault summer exhaust beauty stereo over). How do I use this? 🤨

Now it makes sense. I think the confusion for me is the term "Fader" rather than "Mix Volume".

In my opinion there is one information missing here: the importance of correct input gain settings. To avoid distortion it mustn’t be too high, on the other side, dynamic range can get lost with too low levels. So in advanced mode, I always set first my input gains, then I set the fader levels to get a good sounding mix of the incoming signals. For example: if the input gain of a channel is too high, this signal will stay distorted even when I go to decrease the corresponding fader. So I have to correct this in the channel menu > gain.

@sounddevices ... So let's say I'm doing a panel discussion and I have 6 mics set up...I have to 1) place each one in "ARM" mode so that I record each channel separately, then 2) I would adjust each "Gain" to around -12db, then 3) use the knob as a fader, essentially, to bring it into the mix so that I can monitor on my headphones? In reality, I wouldn't HAVE to send it to L/R because I am recording each channel separately already using the "ARM" option, correct?....Thanks in advance for the reply! Just purchased!

How do you control fader gain for channels 5 and 6?
