Colour My World PETULA CLARK

Writers Tony Hatch and Jackie Trent jumped aboard the popular bandwagon of the time by introducing a sitar riff on this recording. While it made #16 in the USA it failed to impress British listeners, not even making the Top50.

I enjoyed this song as a child but only heard it once or twice on the radio. I didn't get to listen to radio much back then but it left a strong impression on me for women singing what seemed to be powerful songs. "I Know A Place" was another of her songs from the 60s which impressed me.

Yep, this was and remains my fav Pet Clark song.  Encapsulates everything the Sixties was about -- sunshine and colors!   The 70's were rather drab by comparison.   Sixties forever!    Thanks for posting.

I never knew the song failed miserably in the UK. I remember when it was on the charts in the states. I was in HS then and loved just about all of Petula Clark's songs, this one included. I bought the 45 and still have it. I do remember thinking the song rather "different" for Petula Clark and it took a little getting used to, but I came around, liked it, and still do. I was very pleased to stumble upon this video done by a bunch of HS students in Kansas back in 2010. It's nice to see young people picking up on an old song and making a clever video out of it. So, about 50 years later, this somewhat obscure song hasn't been forgotten!

Hadn't heard this song since 67. Reminds me of a girl I used to like back then, many years later she told that she knew who really care about her and it wasn't her husband he was an idiot. Great song good message.

How could the BRITS turn their back on Miz. CLARK? Incredible!!! Love the sitar! Not sure if acoustic or electric? Sitar sounds have made surprising appearances in lot OF POPULAR MUSIC!

It has become one of my favourites, in fact the tune has been going around my brain for a week now, cannot understand why the British never liked it, I know a few years ago it was used for a paint advert

Don't know where it got to in the Australian charts, but this song got a lot of airplay on commercial radio in Oz -- that's how I first heard it! One of my favourite Petulia Clark songs, and one that's not the easiest to perform properly. The back beat (which I think includes the sitar) could very easily become a drone that drags the whole songs down into a sort of dirge. The singer must over-power that and keep the tempo up; after all, it's meant to be a joyous, happy song, and the vocals are what do it. Luckily, PC could and did keep it bouncing. Great song from a wonderful artiste.

In my opinion this song is much better than Downtown, both by Tony Hatch, but it is much less popular. I checked the same in many other cases with other singers.
