Maybe you can help me; For years there has been a lot of excitement regarding the Collatz Conjecture where for any positive whole number (if EVEN n/2, if ODD 3n +1) will always reduce to the Collatz sequence (4, 2, 1, 4, 2, 1, etc.)
Without too much difficulty I figured out that if you use the following formula (if EVEN n/2, if ODD 2n +2) that you will always reduce to the Collatz sequence (4, 2, 1, ...) as well. Surely I can't be the first person to figure this out. Why is there not just as much excitement about (if EVEN n/2, if ODD 2n +2) ???? Maybe you can answer this for me.
