North Korea marks 10th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's death

North Korea came to a standstill for three minutes at midday on Dec 17, as the country marked the 10th death anniversary of former leader Kim Jong Il. Citizens stood and bowed in the streets across Pyongyang, while trains, boats and traffic all came to a stop. Kim Jong Il's sudden death from a heart attack 10 years ago thrust his son Kim Jong Un into the spotlight. Despite initial uncertainty, all signs suggest that the young Kim is now in full control.

Due to the advent of the death anniversary of Kim Jong Il, for 11 days, all smiling and laughing are banned, neither are birthday celebrations permitted. In the event your family members happen to pass away during this period, you are also not permitted to cry and mourn for them.
 (I’m curious why 11 days though.)

The worst part is that North Korea would become a mental asylum if it ends. South koreans and Americans would throw them all into asylums from extreme alienation of lifestyle, technology etc. It would be an Austin powers scenario.
