This is a "How to" QUICK GUIDE on getting from the Newark NJ Airport to Manhattan NYC, Penn Station by Train. When researching how to make the trek myself I came across way too many videos on YouTube that were 10, 15, 20 minutes long and who has time to watch all that? So I decided to make a better one for those looking for good information, QUICKLY!

EWR to Manhattan

1. Go to Baggage Claim (if necessary)
2. Go upstairs to Departures Level to find Newark Airtrain Entrance
3. Use NJ Transit Kiosk to purchase NJ Transit tickets to NY Penn Station
4. Go upstairs to board Airtrain
5. Exit Airtrain at the NJ Transit, Newark Airport Liberty Station
6. Follow Signs for Track A to NYC
7. Exit after 3 stops at NY Penn Station

1. If you have baggage to claim the first place you 'll want to head to after exiting your aircraft are the baggage claim carousels downstairs. Follow all yellow baggage claim signs.

2. Next, you're going to head back upstairs on the Departures level to find the Newark Airtrain entrance. Follow all Airtrain signs.

3. Next to the escalators to the Newark Airtrain are ticket kiosks for the NJ Transit Train. You'll need a ticket to get to the NJ Transit platform. Click Language, NY Penn Station, One way or Round Trip, Number of Tickets, and method of payment. $15.25 Adult one-way, $3.50 Child one-way, $11.25 Senior Citizen one-way as of January 2022.

4. Next, you'll take the escalator up to the Airtrain. The Airtrain is free to ride.

5. Exit the Airtrain at the NJ Transit, Newark airport Liberty Station. If you did not purchase a ticket at the airport, you can still buy one at the machines outside the NJ Transit entrances to the platforms. It is recommended to purchase your tickets at the airport, if possible, in order to avoid crowds trying to purchase tickets outside the NJ Transit entrances.

6. Follow all signs for Track A to NYC. Track A always goes to NY.

7. Make sure you exit after 3 stops at NY Penn Station and not at Newark Penn Station, which sounds extremely similar. The stops will be Newark Penn Station, Secaucus, and NY Penn Station. It should take about 20-30 minutes. Hold onto your tickets, as a Conductor will be by to pick them up.

Just realized my flight would arrive to Newark, so I was very nervous about how to get to Manhattan. This was so straightforward, now I’m not afraid anymore!

Just booked the flight today for my trip to NYC in July and getting off at Newark airport and out of all the vids I’ve saw on how to get to Penn Station this is by far the best.

They opened a new Terminal A in January 2023. The air train does not currently stop there. You have to take a shuttle bus outside baggage claim to go to terminal B and then switch to the air train there.

Thanks for the instructions, which I printed out. For me, the trip between the NJ airport and the NY train station took about 45 min–hour because I waited for the NJ Transit train for about 25 min. FYI, taking it on a Thursday afternoon, there was standing room only. Overall great experience!

Just a Note: Some Trains May bypass the Secaucus Junction Station on weekdays, making the journey only 2 stops.
