I can think of several reasons.
1. Some people are deaf.
2. Some people (me included) are better at focusing on text than sound.
3. Some people (me included) prefer reading.
4. When reading, you can move through the book's contents at your own pace, while if you're listening everything has a fixed speed, so it's messier to go back and forth if you miss something.
