I recognize that democracy is messy. The whole point of democracy is that people have the power to elect their president. And it is 100% fair when someone votes against you, and we live in a free country where we can have a debate about things like this without our government being allowed to interfere. Whether or not the government ACTUALLY interferes is another point entirely, but in just talking about basic principles that the constitution was founded on, we don't need to go there.

The most important and patriotic thing that anyone can do in a country with (allegedly) free and fair elections is vote for the candidate who best represents them, without being a single-issue voter, and certainly not believing everything the media spoon feeds them. There is no honesty in politics, and there never will be. Misinformation is at an all-time high from both sides. The best thing to do is deconstruct whatever argument someone throws at you, see what all the points they made are and where they're coming from, and try to stay at the top of Graham's Hierarchy of Disagreement.

That said, emotions are rampant this election. When emotions dictate your actions and you leave no room for decency or common sense, everything falls apart. Then everyone starts arguing with each other again and the whole thing collapses into a vicious cycle where people are at each other's throats. I think as people we have to rise above that and not let rhetoric from some politician of all people govern our thoughts and actions. Winning hearts and minds doesn't have to mean vilifying ordinary people going to vote.

As someone who has never voted for Trump in my life, and never will, I respect your decision to vote for the candidate who best represents you, your beliefs, your interests, and your agenda. Personally, I will do the same. Democracy falls apart when voting is no longer possible due to election interference, voter fraud, or even just people being too scared or apathetic to show up to the polling place. We have to lead by example in this country, because the world is watching. That means exercising our rights as citizens of the greatest nation in the world.
