Used to have a small, shallow tank on our property in Texas back in the day. Every time it rained, lil fresh water, horseshoe crab/trilobite looking creatures came out. We’d play with them until it dried out. When the rains would come back, they’d pop out again. Was really cool. I should probably look up what they were one day😂

We shouldn't be surprised by cannibalism. The most likely sensors able to identify a species for a little-developed nervous system [we wouldn't expect better] are those of smell and taste, because species-specific chemicals allow such recognition. However, we shouldn't expect many such chemicals available for detection from arthropods covered in carbonate armour. Sight alone would require a more developed nervous system, unless trilobites exhibited specific colours and their eyes could recognize them. Recognition by shape is way way more difficult.
