Now, in this film, you can see Superman doing the same thing when Lex screamed "LENNY!"

The dynamic and chemistry between Reeve and Hackman perfectly convey the classic silver age Superman/Lex Luthor rivalry. Lex tries to bait Superman at every turn, but Supes remains steadfast and won’t allow Luthor an inch. The “it’s common knowledge you hate children and animals, Luthor” retort is that straightforward, earnest peace maker telling his playful nemesis to knock it off.
