Everyone's talking about the fact that she would be really pretty with her hair naturally curly I'm still stuck on the fact that there are places that don't allow you to wear your hair the way it grows

It is a really scary experience when you are not used to wearing your natural curls. It comes with a lot of trial and error, and because you have a job where people literally judge your appearance each day, it makes the trial & error period even more intense. Luckily, there are so many good products out now than there were back in the day. You got this!! I’m also glad your stylist is supporting you on this journey too.

Honesty! I'm in corporate so "when" I wear my natural hair...let's just say it's an entertaining day...EVERYTIME! DAMN IT!

Wow…I didn’t know it was still legal to prohibit people from wearing their natural hair. Hopefully the CROWN Act passes in more states. Thank you for sharing and good luck on your journey!

The word "allowed" with your hair in 2022 soon 2023, is unspeakable

It’s so messed up that some places would not allow you to wear your hair the way it grows out of your head… insane especially as it’s about to be 2023!!

The workplace needs to grow up in regards to this. It is insane how natural Black hair is not accepted.🙄😬😮‍💨

I feel like everyone with curly/coily hair who chooses to wear their hair straight gets this question. I do. My hair has 3 different textures all with their own individual life goals. I’ve tried HARD to master my curly hair but I straighten it because I’m over trying to get all 3 curl patterns to unify. It’s easier for me to just comb out my silk press in the mornings and be on my way. So I understand.

I totally understand. My hair has been natural most of my life, but I also wasn't taught how to care for it growing up so I never really felt 100% comfortable with. Around 2012 I starting really learning how to care for my hair but only recently have I started wearing it out in it's curly state...and I love it! I wish you well on your natural hair journey, if that's the route you choose to take, but always remember it's YOUR hair and therefore, you can do whatever you want with it 😃

It took me 8 years to wear my hair curly COMFORTABLY. This includes growing it out so I could chop off my extremely straight ends. I had been straightening my hair for so long that the top of my hair was curly but the ends were straight. This was just the logistical part of my hair journey. Unlearning the concepts we are socialized with, and learning not only how to care for my hair, but LOVE my natural hair took time. I also worked in an environment that called for a certain “aesthetic” which was bullshit. Imagine being told that your natural hair is “unprofessional.”

It’s asinine.

I understand this feeling. Natural hair needs time investment and when you just don't have that time, it can become a burden.

Just like me, I wear my hair natural and I style it myself from time to time but I recently started working in TV and boy, the time isn't just there anymore.

I've considered putting relaxers on my hair just to make it cooperative. I've also considered microlocing. I'm still undecided but for now I just wear wigs and I'm quite frankly tired

Beautiful! That’s good news the station does not mind if your hair is curly or straight

Even if your hair is naturally curly, I don’t think that you have to fit into anyone’s narrative. I have curly hair and I like my hair straight. I preferred straight that’s how I like to wear it and there’s nothing wrong with that and some of us don’t look good with our curly hair and some of our curly hair is just too much to handle. It’s just easier to wear it straight, so please don’t wear your hair straight because people feel like they need to feel good through you.

I love the honesty. When you’re young and curly hair wasn’t celebrated you didn’t know how to manage it. Well that’s my background. Today I think more people embrace natural hair, I do.
