Just realised, the explosion happens right outside number 5 Albert Square, where Lisa shot Phil back in Mar 2001. Also, in Phil's very first scene way back in Feb 1990, he's parked outside number 5 then too.

Right before the explosion there's a sound like someone clicking a lighter, then a clink like something hitting a pipe right before Phil looks towards the sound and the explosion happens. I think he witnessed someone deliberately torch the gas-pipe.

You can hear something at 0:08 juat before the explosion, like a bottle bomb or something, maybe the riots did something to trigger the explosion
