There’s probalby like 10-12 American cities that are walkable lol; overseas most cities have suburbs that have metro lines and bike lanes

The point is in US or Australia, people rely on cars on daily basis, but in Asian countries, due to huge population, people are encouraged to commute via public transportation.

problem is that such a design allows for cities with massive population.. so could allow for more environmental destruction

I think you're really playing loose with what a suburb is. Satellite cities are towns that have an urban form aren't suburbs in any meaningful sense. And within cities, the old streetcar suburbs much more urban and mixed use in form. Building such forms new requires regulation and oversight and many governments and developers don't much care for that, so it requires political will. It also requires a commitment to transit that makes it possible to move easily between nodes.
