The Gin and Tonic has changed a lot through time, so today I’ll teach you everything you need to know about one of the most popular cocktails in the world! I’ll make 3 versions, from the oldest to the modern, starting with an 1850’s G&T with Old Tom Gin and Tonic Syrup. We’ll then move onto the Spanish Gin and Tonic, pairing gin and Fever Tree tonic with botanicals for a more complex experience. Finally, I’ll show you how to make an elegant G&T with KiNoBi japanese gin and Three Cents Tonic to create an elegant and minimalist drink. If you make this cocktail regularly at home you won’t want to miss this episode, so pull up a chair and get your favorite tonic ready as it’s Cocktail Time. Cheers!

Nice video, here in Argentina the Gin & Tonic is a classic, we make really good gin too because we have all the ingredients naturally and excelent spring water... in now days there's an explosive wave of G&T in my country and i love it.

Yes Gin Raw is just such an amazing Spanish gin. Not very well known to the public. Great work you are just amazingly good at what you do 😊 and the 2:1 is the perfect ratio. Hate when they fill a whole 200ml with a 50 ml

I like that there's so many high quality tonics available these days to use as mmixers

I was surprised by the first one! And the third one had this buttery taste, amazing. 🤤

3 Cents is an amazing soda company and I personally enjoy very much to have a Hendrick's with Aegean Tonic which has a subtle cucumber aroma and pairs perfectly. I would love to see more pairings with different Gins and flavored tonics such as cucumber elderflower etc. Great video overall once more mate! Cheers!

In the book "liquid intelligence" Dave Arnold He recommends throwing the ice at the end since the ice is a natural antimaezclante. I tried it and it's amazing how you get more bubbles this way.

2:20 the "navy proof gin" was above 57° of alcohol and called like that because, if you were to find yourself in a dire situation during a naval battle, in which your gunpowder reserves were soaked wet by sea water, you could pour the spirit on it. 57° is the required abv to get the powder flammable again even if wet, and being able to fire your cannons again.

I haven't tested the experience my self due to a lack of cannons, gunpowder barrels and gallion but the anecdote is fun to tell when you wheel out a "navy proof gin" out of your bar 😉

I have played around with the GnT at parties and find the tonic taste is sometimes unpopular with novice gin drinkers. I make my GnT with 2.5 oz of botanical or dry gin (drinkers' choice), 1 oz (or the juice of one lime, shake in a shaker and strain into a tall glass with ice, top off with tonic water and garnish with a sliver of the lime peel (after expressing the oils). It may not be a purist recipe, but it goes over very well with new gin drinkers and is great at warm weather parties.

Kevin, I'm so happy you finished with a Japanese gin, the creations from the far east are the only reason I like gin at all. If you haven't tried them, I highly recommend exploring the rest of the gins Japan has to offer, from the basic Suntory Roku to the overproof Komasa Sakurajima Komikan. My local izakaya has made me a believer and regular G&T enjoyer because of these spirits.

"Gin might just be the only spirit that’s used exclusively for mixing", I took offense to that 😂

I enjoy a simple Gin and tonic with a lime peel twist and an ounce of lime juice. My preferred gin is Bombay Sapphire gin, so the Tonic flavors don't overpower the gin.

yes, please make the non cinchona syrup episode!
Cinchona is illegal here in Japan and i've been wanting an alternative for years

Brit here. First drink of the holiday. One pint glass full of ice, a quadruple measure of Gordons, top up with schweppes tonic, half a lemon squeezed into the glass then its carcass dumped in. Give it a swirl, good to go. That's a Gin and Tonic. Extra points if it has a faint aroma of mosquito repellent.

Tonic syrup? Yes please! Even better if it uses the pith leftover from all the super juices I'm making 😁

As a craft cocktail bartender, people ask me all the time what my favorite cocktail is. I tell them it's the Corpse Reviver #2 (it is) but little do they know it's actually just a classic G&T, no garnish haha! Worst gin I've ever had was Four Peel gin. Favorites for me are The Botanist and Petoskey gin.

Cheers!

I seem to be one of the odd-balls that actually likes the taste of quinine. My parents and neighbors were big G&T drinkers when I was growing up. They obviously would't let me have the gin, but they let me have tonic water. These days I'm not a big fan of most gins (it's probably my least favorite spirit, ) but I still love tonic water. I've found myself often going for a vodka tonic over the G&T, just to let the tonic shine.
