The Queensland government has been quick to rule out a bed tax proposal for tourists.

Mayors from four Queensland councils have written to Premier David Crisafulli, imploring him to consider legislation for a bed tax.

They have since received backlash from the state government, which quickly ruled it out.

The government says local councils "have the ability to strike their own levies for local infrastructure".

It's time to oust federal corruption, Australia needs real leadership, VOTE ONE NATION 🇦🇺 AND TRUMPET OF PATRIOTS, START PUTTING AUSSIES FIRST.

This is bloody disgusting from these mayors. It's already bloody crazy the cost of any accomodation in Australia, and the reason so many Australians choose to travel to Asian and South Pacific islands for their holidays. If accomodation in Australia was cheaper, all the island resorts in Queensland would be fully patronised, and not deserted and abandoned. If so many Filipinas are employed on cruise ships and received good remuneration, they could be employed at our resorts on a similar basis, but we are being screwed over by the Labor supported unions pricing everything out of reach.

Less taxes the Better. the MORE money folk have, the more money they can spend within the economy. The goal is the Circulate it, not Collect it...

the councils want the state government to do it so they cop the backlash not the councils. be interesting to see the political alignment of the councils

These governments are tax gouging Australians across three levels even though it's only the Federal Government that can Constitutionally levy taxes.

What about a toilet tax. Depending if it’s a shit or a piss. That would depend on the tax payed by the person.

Is it fair to call this an import tariff?

Fine tax me, I'll just stop importing rich tourists from Melbourne who spend no more than $4.95. Makes perfect sense.
And BTW what exactly are Mayors payed for apart from cutting ribbons on multimillion dollar council buildings.

Sure, yeah. Watch EVERY ONE of these mayors backflip on this during the Olympics....from their box seats...when the bills come due.
