Dear YoYo Games...

This is an open letter to YoYo Games, the creators of Game Maker Studio 2. I feel like their business model needs a slight update in order to keep Game Maker relevant in the future.

Most people I know use a game engine for two to three years before they make the purchase decision. In Game Maker, that's no longer possible, because the free demo has some very harsh limitation.

That makes it hard to recommend Game Maker as the best game engine for beginners.

Dear YoYo Games, pleas think about the long term implications of this. I don't think that your current business model will win over Unity and Unreal in the future. Pleas fix it. :)

Do you currently use Game Maker?
Which version of Game Maker do you use and why?
If you haven't tried Game Maker Studio 2, why is that?

It's no coincidence that I got this into my recommended now... I even didn't know our high elf tyrolldal the great has used anything else but unity! Cool to see!
Opera aquiring Game Maker is like the best thing that could've happened.

here from 2019 : ) ----> the 30 day trial got me into gms2 : D, im new to game development, and having so much freedom on it is moslty what got me to buy the 1 year license. im really comfortable with gms2

I use GameMaker 1.4 Professional, because I got it for a really low price from a humble bundle!
I have tried using gms:2 multiple times, but the workspace feels really unintuitive and weird to me (And I don't want to spend so much money on something I don't really want to use)

It is in Opera's hands now. They seem to understand the product better.

i wanted at first to use GMS cuz i thought it has everything i want and it's easy
but i was trying the free version of gms2 when i wanted to try learning hard

Great points Jonas! Trials should be 6 months minimum, always. Regardless of if its a young person or old person downloading it for the first time.

Hi Jonas! Good video, what do you think about their new decision ? They started the 30-day trial with full features, do you think it's good for a long run?

... said the person with blankets that are hanging from the walls :P

I use Unity for making games. I think, this is an easy way to start with small games. I don't know if this is the best and easiest way but it's for free.
Yoyo Games should really change their free version :P

Besides, what's GMS 2? it's just GMS 1 with a new GUI and less stable than GMS1 (which was already highly unstable).

you are right.
what about the export modules? so expensive! i am moving to construct 3, for the same price that gms2 wants for the basic i can export to every platform.

Forget GM, go buy Godot instead.
It's cheaper
