Critical thinking is a good thing, especially in trucking. However, one needs to understand switching from internal combustion engine to fully electric is a political issue first. As such, our leftist, woke government and its bureaucrats would make it a priority for the fundamental changes to take place on roads ( yes using our tax dollars) . And Amazon, Walmart, Costco well aware of the state of political affairs and count on it.
EV trucks can be used on stretches of highways where driver's participation is minimal ( such as mid western plains, Dakotas, Nebraska etc). Amazon, Costco already have newer warehouses with close proximity to major highways and the government would further accommodate corporations by retrofitting highways and building specialized highways exits that lead directly into receiving warehouses. The warehouse too can be modernized for electric trucks. Once the trailer is delivered to warehouse location its the local 'runner' truck parks the trailer where needed.
The problem with any EV technology is that ultimately it may NOT be that efficient and therefore may not justify the cost of conversion. Energy required to charge the batteries is not free. Government rarely encourages the talk of cost comparisons. Not to mention that recharging takes time (inefficient). The government may need to move to nuclear energy in order to facilitate electrical grid infrastructure around the US. But the nuclear has its own pro/con arguments. Nothing is perfect. That being said, human interaction with technology (whatever shape it ultimately takes) would still be required.
