That's not a soffit, a soffit is the underside of a roof overhang at 90 degrees to the Fascia board. But then for hundreds of years things were given names and we all knew those names then the USA was created and they used the same names for years. But then they felt they wanted to be seen as different but they didn't have the intellectual capacity to make up their own names for things, so they rearranged the names of things or changed the spelling, then called it American English.
A bit pathetic really isn't it. I wonder if he calls the empty void between his ears a soffit instead of a skull.
